What to check
Left, right and middle (wheel click) should increment. The wheel should report up and down. If double-clicks fire when you click once, the switch is bouncing — a common failure on old mice.
FAQ
Can I test DPI here?
Not as a lab spec. You can see whether movement is smooth. DPI is set in the mouse driver.
Trackpad vs mouse?
Both work. A trackpad will not have a middle button unless the OS maps a tap.
