What download speed do you need?
Web browsing is fine near 10 Mbps. HD video is around 5–8 Mbps per stream; 4K is often 15–25 Mbps per stream. Game updates and 4K family homes want 100 Mbps or more so several people are not fighting for the same pipe.
How this download speed test works
SpeedXG opens parallel download streams for several seconds and reports megabits per second. That is the same unit ISPs advertise. Divide by 8 for megabytes per second when you are guessing file copy time.
Download vs upload
Asymmetric cable plans often have much higher download than upload. If downloads look fine but video calls freeze, run the upload speed test and ping test as well.

Is download speed the same as Mbps?
ISPs quote download in Mbps. This download speed test uses Mbps too. MB/s is eight times smaller.
Why is download slower at night?
Neighborhood congestion and Wi-Fi load both rise in the evening. Test at more than one time before blaming the plan.
